For some time now Firefox has been a superior alternative to IE. Even with the release of IE7, I use Firefox as my primary browser and it works flawlessly on 99% of web sites I visit.

Originally, I switched from IE because of security concerns. IE has always had security flaws that are primarily the result of Microsoft's support of the ill conceived ActiveX. Before Firefox, the choice was either locked IE down so tight it didn't work or leave the door open for malware. With Firefox, security is much tighter and functionality is pretty well maintained.

One great feature that was introduces in Firefox is tabbed browsing. IE7 does have this feature but I still prefer the Firefox implementation. Firefox also has a built-in download manager. Both of these features can be even better by installing some of the numerous extensions available on the Firefox web site. In fact, there is a plethora of great free extensions that really enhance the browser.

The only possible downside is the fact that there are still a few web sites that rely on ActiveX which is only supported by IE. For now, this means that you will probably need a copy of IE installed on your box.
